Seven members of Bugenyuzi’s CNL opposition party are in the hot seat. Bugenyuzi district administrator, Jacques Mucowera, accused the seven opponents of illegal possession of weapons on October 18. INFO SOS Médias Burundi
The administrator held a meeting with the population of Kidahwe village in the district of Bugenyuzi in the province of Karusi (central-eastern Burundi).
The administrator pointed out that these CNL members are part of a group of criminals that looted goods in the shops of the trading center of Gatamba (Gihogazi district, Karusi province).
The seven opponents who have been singled out include Ferdinand Bizimana, Fernatus Mbikemunda, Audace Nkurunziza, Jean Claude Irankunda, Libère Rivuzimana, Frédéric Ndihokubwayo and Dieudonné Ntahimpera.
Leaders of the CNL party say they are surprised to hear the administrator of the district of Bugenyuzi make these remarks without evidence. They say that behind these allegations are hidden political motives.
“Undoubtedly, arbitrary arrests will follow”, say officials of the main opposition political party in Karusi.
Jacques Mucowera refused to comment.
