DRC : now close to the M23, Nangaa, the former CENI chairperson announces the imminent capture of Goma

Corneille Nangaa and his fellow M23 fighters assured the population of the Kiwanja region, in Rutshuru territory in North Kivu, conquered by the M23 rebels, that peace will be restored. He even indicated that their coalition will take the city of Goma as well as all the other cities in the region. The Congo River Alliance political-military movement of Corneille Nangaa, former chairperson of the Independent National Electoral Commission CENI, rallied to the cause of the M23 rebellion with the same objective of overthrowing the regime of Félix Antoine Tshisekedi. The leaders of this coalition went on Thursday to meet the population of the rural community of Kiwanja, in the territory of Rutshuru in the east of the DRC.

Dressed in the same military outfit as the elements of the M23 who were at his side, Corneille Nangaa assured the civilians of Rutshuru of guaranteeing them peace and lasting security, especially in this period when the Kinshasa authorities are active to contain the M23 rebellion and its partners.

“We are a disciplined army and you yourself are our eyewitnesses thanks to what is happening here in Kiwanja to boost your morale, with our valiant young people repelling the attacks of the enemy, all this to protect you and your property,” reassured Corneille Nangaa.

Upon his arrival in Kiwanja, the AFC chief was welcomed by Kiwanja civilians who claim to enjoy total freedom.

As head of the political-military movement, Nangaa estimated that the capture of the city of Goma and many other cities in the province of North Kivu is coming soon.

According to Corneille Nagaa, “the Congolese government does not respect the conclusions of Luanda and Nairobi.”

“We will recover the city of Goma in a few days, and even the cities of Beni and Butembo. We want to save the lives of Congolese people,” added Mr. Nangaa.

The M23 is a former Tutsi rebellion which took up arms again at the end of 2021, accusing the Congolese government of not having respected its commitments on the reintegration of its fighters. It benefits from the support of Rwanda, according to the Congolese authorities. Rwanda has always denied these allegations, calling them “baseless rumors”.

Since June 2022, the rebellion has seized several zones and regions in North Kivu including Bunagana, the border city with Uganda. But recently, when the rebels were at the gates of Goma, capital of North Kivu, a spokesperson for the rebel movement declared that “our objective is not to take the city of Goma”.
