Bururi : the case of the Kajondi district high school teacher prosecuted for manslaughter under deliberation

SOS Médias Burundi only learned about it on Monday, even though the trial took place last Tuesday in a public hearing. The public prosecutor requested a sentence of 5 years and a fine of 100 thousand Burundi francs against Fidèle Niyukuri, a teacher at the Kajondi district high school, located in the district of Rutovu, province of Bururi, in the south of the country. He is accused of manslaughter by the public prosecutor. The victim, a pupil of the teacher, died after being beaten up by the latter. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

The case was heard last Tuesday during a public hearing by the the First Instance Court of Bururi in the town center of this province.

The civil party, assisted by the children’s rights organization, Family to Overcome AIDS, FVS, claimed damages of 500 million Burundi francs.

The public prosecutor admitted that the teacher did not intend to kill this pupil.

Iranzi Lee Kévin died on November 11 after being beaten up by his teacher.

The defense says it is waiting for the verdict, the case having been put under advisement.
