North-Kivu: a local NGO warns of poor living conditions of Rutshuru’s war displaced persons

The Social Action for Integral Development, ASDI-RDC carried out a humanitarian mission on the site of the displaced persons of Rwasa 2 in the territory of Rutshuru recently. It is in the province of North Kivu in the east of the DRC. During this trip, the NGO indicates that it has observed a very deplorable humanitarian situation for displaced persons since the M23 and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) clashed. ASDI-RDC officials claim that those concerned lack almost everything.

“The urgency for these needy stems in particular from food, health, educational and security care”, they noted.

The Rwasa 2 site hosts about seven thousand households. They are displaced by war and Congolese refugees sent back by Uganda.

“We are in the phase of assessing the needs of the displaced. This is the first action that allows us to identify the real needs of the latter. Now that we know them and know the actions carried out by other humanitarian organizations so far there, we are in the process of defining the axes of intervention”, said the coordinator of the organization before launching an SOS to the government, to the other humanitarian organizations and to any person of good will to assist these displaced persons.

For more than three months, the security and humanitarian situation remains worrying in several parts of the Bwisha chiefdom, in Rutshuru territory, in North Kivu.

According to our sources, thousands of displaced people who fled the clashes between the FARDC and the M23 rebels in Rutshuru territory are living in very deplorable conditions in their host sites and families.

The March 23 Movement (M23) has occupied the border town of Bunagana for more than four months. Intense fighting that resumed a week ago has caused several thousand more residents to flee their households. Some have taken the direction of Uganda and have already been transferred to the Nakivale camp, far from the border.
