Suspected Allied Democratic Forces ADF rebels again attacked the town of Kabasha, located on the Beni-Butembo road in Beni territory in eastern DRC in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. Some local sources say the assailants attacked defenceless civilians. INFO SOS Médias Burundi
Two civilians were killed instantly and the search was launched to know the final casualties tied to the atrocities committed by the ADF during the attack, reported administrative authorities.
They add other civilians were abducted including health professionals and nurses. They have not yet given any sign of life since the attack.
The damages include material casualties. Shops, pharmacies and a hospital center were looted and burned. Vehicles and the police station of the Congolese National Police (PNC) in Kabasha were also burned.
The civil society in the area denounces the negligence of the alerts launched by the population. The rights defenders says a few days before this incursion, Ugandan rebels were visible in several corners of the territory of Beni, in the province of North Kivu.
“They cause casualties during their passage from village to another, this despite the restoration of the state of siege (in force since May 2021) and the ongoing joint operation by the Congolese and Ugandan armies in the territory of Beni and part of Ituri province”.
A displacement of the population has been observed, some inhabitants take the direction of the commercial city of Butembo as others find refuge in Beni-ville.
