Gitega: two unsolved murders in the districts of Gishubi and Mutaho

Two corpses were found in the districts of Gishubi and Mutaho, in the province of Gitega (central Burundi). It is the corpse of an ex-Fab (a retired soldier from the former Burundian army) and a displaced person from the Mutaho site. Motives for the double murder are not yet known. The corpse of Pierre Ngendanzi, 63 years old, retired from the former army before the integration of Hutu rebel movements, was found last Tuesday not far from his home in Ruhande village in Gishubi district in Gitega province (central Burundi). Witnesses say he was killed. The motives for this murder are not yet known. The body had injuries on the head, our sources say.

On December 2, Patrick Niyokwizera, aged 26, a displaced person from the Mutaho site, taxi-bicycle rider was killed by as yet unidentified criminals around 7 p.m. not far from the district office. The cause of his assassination is not yet identified.

Relatives of the victims are calling for independent investigations to determine circumstances in which their loved ones died.

The administrator of the district of Gishubi, Marie Chantal Nduwayezu says that “Pierre Ngendanzi died of an accident after having plunged into a stream separating the village of Ruhande and the village of Gishubi. He was drunken”.

Mrs. Nduwayezu indicates that “the body of the victim was discovered under a bridge separating the two localities”.

The administrator of the district of Mutaho, Melchiade Nihorimbere explained that the police conducted investigations into the assassination of Patrick Niyokwizera and that “I have already transmitted the report to the hierarchy”.
