DRC – Rutshuru : growing insecurity in the Busanza groupment

Résidents of Busanza groupment in the chiefdom of Bwisha, Rutshuru terrotory in North Kivu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, are indignant at the resurgence of insecurity, days after a similar insecurity was reported in areas under the control of M23 and local armed groups. Different sources suggest the presence of these two parties in permanent conflicts, contributes to fuel a climate of insecurity in these entities. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

According to sources on the ground, clashes between the M23 and local armed groups and militias occur almost regularly. Some residents fled and headed to Uganda, while others went to central Rutshuru.

“Given these displacements of populations, almost all socio-economic activities have been suspended for a few months. In addition, localities like Rugashari, Kaitorea, Changwi, Kitagoma and Kavugizo register cases of rape, looting of property, kidnapping of peaceful citizens, who say they have been forgotten by the Congolese government”, the displaced regret.

The displaced living along the Congolese-Ugandan border are asking for the involvement of competent authorities in the restoration of peace in North Kivu province’s localities.
