Kirundo : a teenager dies after being beaten up by an Imbonerakure

Ezechiel Ntahinduka, aged 14, died on Monday July 24 at the provincial hospital. According to witnesses, the young boy succumbed to beatings inflicted on him by Jean Marie Nkurunziza, a member of the youth league of the ruling party (CNDD-FDD).
The incident took place in Nyakibingo village in Ntega district of Kirundo province in northern Burundi. His parents demand the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator of this heinous crime. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

According to witnesses, the child was badly beaten up. He was allegedly accused by his executioner of getting into the back of a moving truck.

“Jean Marie Nkurunziza, an Imbonerakure, violently beat up this 14-year-old boy. It was July 15 of this year. The child was seriously beaten up like a snake. Unfortunately, no help was given to him”, recalls a sexagenarian who also regrets that everyone was afraid to intervene to save this child. “We are unfortunately used to the violence perpetrated by these Imbonerakure at home in Ntega district”, continues the old man.

Information converges on the deterioration of the child’s health since the day he suffered this violence. The family took him to the Rushubije health center for treatment, but his condition was still critical.

Saturday morning, the family evacuated the child to Kirundo hospital. But the boy died the same day.

Administration sources claim that Jean Marie Nkurunziza has already fled.

“Local administration officials have reportedly hidden him to make him escape the police”, declared to us an elected official. According to the same source, three other people are cited in the same case. Two are imprisoned in the Ntega cell.

The child’s family is demanding justice.
