North Kivu: part of the Busanza groupment annexed by Uganda ?

Residents of the Busanza groupement in the Rutshuru territory in the North Kivu province (eastern DRC) say Uganda has moved boundary markers marking the border between this country and the DRC. The Ugandan and Congolese authorities have not yet reacted. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

According to residents, the border demarcation operation between Congo and Uganda took place in the village of Mungo, near Bunagana.

“This weekend, a Ugandan delegation began placing new border posts several kilometers inside Congolese territory,” Congolese eyewitnesses say.

They describe the operation as “an abusive extension” of Ugandan territory in eastern DRC.

Residents speak of a huge loss because “we can no longer access and exploit our land which has become Ugandan property”.

According to complainants, this is not an isolated case. Similar allegations were reported in the neighboring Binza groupement.

“In the past, Uganda had already moved border posts in Binza. The Congolese authority has done nothing to return the boundaries to their initial state,” these residents lament asking the authority to take firm diplomatic and military measures to stop the Ugandan maneuvers.

The civil society of Rutshuru calls on the international community including the African Union and the United Nations, to react.

Both the Ugandan and Congolese authorities have not yet reacted.
