Firmin Nzeyimana, teacher at the Nyanza-Lac district secondary school, Thierry Munezero and Oscar Niyukuri, COOPEC* agents from Nyanza-Lac, were arrested at their homes located in the Bukeye neighborhood.
According to sources on site, their arrest was carried out by the provincial police commissioner in Makamba (southern Burundi) in collaboration with the head of the national intelligence service in this province, Liévin Macumi.
They were arrested after a search carried out at their homes located in the Bukeye neighborhood in the town center of the Nyanza-Lac district.
Their relatives claim to have been very surprised because nothing abnormal was found there, and “despite that, they were taken on board handcuffed arms and legs to an unknown destination”, they denounce.
The reason for their arrest remains unknown
Their relatives say they “do not know the reason for their arrest and the place of their detention, especially since they are neither in the Makamba police cell nor in that of the prosecution.”
Firmin Nzeyimana was the district leader of the MSD party (Movement for Solidarity and Development) in Nyanza-Lac district before its removal from the list of political parties by the Ministry of the Interior in early April 2017.
Their families fear for their safety and ask to be informed of their whereabouts.
