DRC: the country has a new government

This Tuesday, the recently appointed Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka has just put in place her government team. It includes 54 positions. The new government includes 17 women or 30%, as provided for in the Congolese constitution, according to women’s organizations in North Kivu, who express joy and satisfaction at being represented. It was around 2 a.m. this Wednesday that the names of the members of the new government were announced. They were read on Congolese national radio and television by Tina Salama, spokesperson for the Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi.

“The new government was announced at 9 p.m. A long time has passed either on the radio or in front of television screens until late at night. It was finally after 2 a.m. that the information was known. We have new government team”, rejoice residents contacted by SOS Médias Burundi in North Kivu.

The new government includes 54 portfolios: 6 Deputy Prime Ministers, 10 Ministers of State, 24 Ministers, 10 Deputy Ministers and 4 Deputy Ministers.

Female representation

The so-called Suminwa government includes 17 women, or 30% in accordance with the constitution of the DRC.

“This inspires the meaning of democracy. It gives a strong voice to Congolese women. It is an honor and we hope that we will be listened to and consulted before any decision is made,” responded women leaders in the North-Kivu.

Some ministers from the former government of Sama Lukonde Kenge were reappointed to other positions including Jean-Pierre Bemba who was assigned to Transport as he was at the National Defense.
