Butaganzwa : a woman killed, her husband injured with a machete

A woman was killed and her husband injured with a machete in the village of Kivumu, in the district of Butaganzwa in the province of Ruyigi (eastern Burundi) on Friday around 11 p.m. The couple was suspected of witchcraft. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

Godelieve Ndikumagenge died on the spot. She was killed with a machete by unknown persons on Friday around 11 p.m., witnesses told SOS Médias Burundi.

Her husband Pascal Kabura was injured. The two spouses were 50 years old. The village chief of Kivumu, Bernard Kanani, confirmed the tragedy. He said that two individuals are being sought. Two warrants have been issued, he said.

Rémy Ndarufatiye, district administrator of Butaganzwa, said that the police have opened an investigation. He believes that suspicions of witchcraft were behind the attack that cost Godelieve Ndikumagenge her life.

Mr. Ndarufatiye called on his subjects to cut short mob justice.
