During the night of Sunday, police officer Majorique Irankunda used his service weapon to shoot cows, according to residents.

“[…] He shot at cows that were resting on the Mubuga basketball court. Three cows died on the spot while four others were seriously injured,” say residents of the town center of Mubuga who also indicate that this policeman himself attacked people who were in a local bistro.

These same sources say that he was drunk, and that this would explain his behavior.

The facts are confirmed by Élie Sindayihebura, Mubuga zone chief who says he does not know the motives for this barbarity.

Owners of the animals are traders from the provinces of Ruyigi and Cankuzo in eastern Burundi. They say they have filed a complaint against this policeman and hope that he will be tried in flagrante delicto and that they will be compensated.
