The driver-mechanic, a native of Bihororo hill in the commune of Giheta (Gitega) pleaded guilty without clarifying the motives for the murder.

“He didn’t even steal the money. Obviously it was a contract killer who had been tasked with eliminating the victim,” said a person who attended the trial.

Chadrack Irakoze said he purchased the weapon in the Democratic Republic of Congo for civilian self-defense.

The prosecution has requested a life sentence for the murder who asked a reduction of the judgement.

After deliberation, the judges ruled on a life sentence.
