In a press briefing this Monday at his office in the economic capital Bujumbura, the Burundian minister for the national education declared that a score of 50.5% is required for boarding schools and schools in Bujumbura.
“The number of students who failed the national competition is 16,097, or an average of 135 students per commune or 5 students per hill. These ones can register in vocational training centers or repeat a class if places are available,” declared Minister François Havyarimana.
He also added his ministry has just increased by 5,000 the number of students who will be accepted into the boarding school. All Batwa students (a minority in Burundi assimilated to pygmies) who have obtained the minimum score of 64/200 are on principle admitted to the boarding school. The province of Karusi (central-east) still occupies first place as in previous years, with a success rate of 97.16%, the town hall of Bujumbura being in last position with a yield rate of 67.53%, announced Minister Havyarimana.

He took the opportunity to announce the day of the start of the school year which is scheduled for September
