Witnesses to the scene of Fleury Niyonkomezi’s arrest speak of a kidnapping. At the time of the incident, he was in a voter registration center located in the Birimba neighborhood in the town center of Rumonge (southwest Burundi).

“Individuals who arrested him were in police uniform. They were on board a double-cabin pick-up. We were unable to identify the registration number,” say eyewitnesses to the scene of Mr. Niyonkomezi’s arrest. They are talking about kidnapping. A member of the CNL told SOS Médias Burundi that Fleury Niyonkomezi was arrested by agents of the National Intelligence Service. “But we do not know the reason for his arrest.”

The place of detention of this man has not yet been revealed to his family. His relatives say they have searched for him in all official cells in the province, in vain. They are asking authorized bodies to help them find him.

Fleury Niyonkomezi is a native of the district of Muhuta (same province of Rumonge). He lives in the Birimba neighborhood. The local police have not yet communicated on this case.
