The body of Cédric Iradukunda, 25 years old, was discovered in Songa village, in the district and province of Gitega, in central Burundi.

According to local authorities, the victim was lying on the RN8, linking Gitega to Rutana. “As soon as he was discovered, he was identified as a hairdresser from the city of Gitega. His body had injuries to the head and thighs,” said Jean Berchimans Ntahondereye, village chief of Songa.

The exact circumstances of the murder and the identity of the perpetrators remain unknown.

“We believe that he was killed elsewhere and that his body was transported here to make it look like a road accident,” added Mr. Ntahondereye.

As part of the investigation, the police arrested another hairdresser in order to shed light on this case.

This tragedy comes as another murder shook the district of Gitega less than a week ago. On January 29, Josiane Niyomwungere, 28 years old, was killed after being raped in the Magarama neighborhood, in the heart of Gitega.

In less than five months, more than ten bodies have been found in Gitega province.
