Using a kitchen knife, Jean Paul Muhire, an Imbonerakure (member of the CNDD-FDD party youth league), originally from Coga hill in Ngozi province (northern Burundi) who worked in Muzinda, stabbed Ezekiel Nzoyikorera.

He demanded a sum of one thousand Burundian francs (less than a dollar) which remained from the sale of his mobile phone.

A person, furious at what had just happened at that time, took an iron bar and hit the suspect on the head.

“Seriously injured, he was transferred to a health center in Muzinda,” said a witness.

This Thursday morning at Mpanda General Hospital, Ezéchiel Nzoyikorera succumbed to his injuries.

The local police arrested three people: the alleged murderer, his cohabitant and the one who hit the murderer.

The communal administration in Rugazi “deplores this criminal behavior” and calls “for restraint in the event of disputes”.
