The journalist was saved thanks to his courage.
“Me and the biker who was carrying me home returning from Kituku, met a man in the middle of theft operation in my neighborhood at 9 p.m. in front of a shop in front of my house. He started shooting with his rifle, saying to put everything we had on the ground”, testified Mérite Bahongwere, in shock.
“I fled, but the motorcyclist stayed with the armed man who fired several bullets in my direction, but, fortunately, I was not hit”, recalls our colleague.
Fleeing, I went directly to a friend’s house, because I was afraid to return home, he adds.
According to neighbors, everything the biker had in his possession was stolen from him.
“I spent the night at my friend’s house and came home in the morning”, added the journalist.
Crackling of bullets, incursions of armed men into houses, become legion in the city of Goma, under the helpless gaze of authorities in this period of the state of siege, say local observers.
