According to local civil society the victims were found with parts of their bodies cut off, including heads and arms.

Christophe Munyanderu, local manager of the convention for the respect of human rights, says he is “very concerned about the progress of the enemy who is now a few kilometers from the Otomabere-centre locality”.

The protection of citizens, civil society believes, is possible if “the competent services take measures to rout these bloodthirsty people”.

“We have always alerted the military authorities that the enemy is circulating in the Bandavilemba groupment. And here is, this Wednesday, the enemy ADF killed two civilians. The enemy arrived around 1 km from the RN4 on the west side. This is why we are appealing to this mixed force of the Ugandan and Congolese armies, to the chief of staff currently in Beni to properly assess these operations so that the population can relive the lull,” said Christophe Munyanderu.

The toll of this new attack brings the number of civilians killed since the beginning of April to 16.

“Some bodies of the victims have not yet been buried,” regrets Mr. Munyanderu.
