There is total desolation among the population of sections 2, 3 and 4 of Nyamitanga village.

Torrential rains which fell in Nyamitanga village this Sunday damaged several crop fields and demolished more than a hundred houses. Two residents were also injured.

The district administration confirms this information and specifies that piles of sludge deposited by runoff from the high mountains have made the RN5 (National Road number 5) Bujumbura-Rugombo partially impassable.

Victims are calling for emergency assistance and preventive measures to limit the damage.

“These disasters have become endemic”, they lament.

Pamphile Hakizimana, administrator of the district of Buganda, said that while awaiting aid from the State and humanitarians, the affected populations are currently sheltered in schools which have large rooms.
