Fizi: new clashes between Mai-Mai and Red-Tabara
The Mai-Mai Yakutumba and Hassan Mbakanyi attacked the Red-Tabara positions in the Ngandja sector on Saturday. It is in the territory of Fizi, in the province of South Kivu in the east of the DRC. The Elders of the Bafulero community asked the Burundian rebels and their allies to withdraw to other areas to avoid attacks by the Burundian army at home.

The Burundian rebels of Red-Tabara and their allies, the Maï-Maï Ngomanzito left their bases of Kabanja, Kitumba and Rugezi in the territory of Fizi on Sunday. It was Elders of the Bafulero community who asked them to leave their villages.
“The Elders here fear violent clashes between Burundian soldiers based in the mountains of Ngandja and fighters of Red-Tabara. This is why they begged them to leave our villages, which they did,” say residents from the Ngandja sector.
The day before, several Mai-Mai Yakutumba and Hassan Mbakanyi militiamen had attacked the positions of the Burundian rebels established in the mentioned areas. Local sources say that the Burundian rebels, supported by their allies, the Mai-Mai Ngomanzito, repelled the attacks of their enemies.
According to witnesses, the Red-Tabara rebels and the Mai-Mai Ngomanzito were deployed in the Itombwe sector, Mwenga territory, still in South Kivu.
