The three corpses were decomposing, witnesses confirmed to SOS Médias Burundi. All were seen by farmers in cassava fields. Two of the three bodies were found in Nyamitanga, in Buganda district. One of them has been identified. Thaddée Nizigiyimana campaigned for the CNDD-FDD, the ruling party, according to residents.
“It had been two weeks since he disappeared. We do not yet know the circumstances in which he died,” our sources say.
The three bodies of men were discovered not far from the river Rusizi, separating Burundi and the DRC. Macabre discoveries are often reported on the banks of this river. And in almost all cases, the local authority carries out hasty burial of the bodies. It was the same case on Saturday except for Thaddée Nizigiyimana.
“The three bodies were tied up,” lament witnesses to the macabre triple discovery.
Residents contacted by SOS Médias Burundi on Saturday evening and Nizigiyimana’s family are asking provincial authorities to “conduct investigations to determine the circumstances in which the three men died”.
The district administration in both entities simply called on the population to “collaborate with the judicial and police authorities” to bring the investigations to a successful conclusion.
