Cibitoke: an agreement for a healthy distribution of Brarudi products sealed

In a meeting held Monday, June 10 in the capital of the Cibitoke province, northwest Burundi, on the shortage of products from the Burundi Brewery and Lemonaderies, administrators, traders and representatives of Brarudi discussed the way out since in all the communes of the province there are speculators who sell at prices far higher than those set by administrative authority. Consumers speak of poor distribution and demand changes.

Measures were taken during this crucial meeting for the well-being of the population of Cibitoke.

The owners of the bistros denounced a policy of double standards in the distribution of Brarudi products. Main reason, according to them, for the persistent shortage in all 6 communes of Cibitoke province.

The compagny representatives in the meeting, administrators, police and bar owners agreed to adopt a certain number of measures aimed at punishing speculators.

“A mixed commission will be set up shortly to study together all the challenges linked, above all, to certain cases of speculation attributable to traders who unilaterally raise prices. We will not hesitate to severely sanction offenders in accordance with the law, among other things to close the bar for a period of between 3 months and a year,” declared an administrator.

He urges Brarudi to carry out a fair distribution of its products between all the owners of the bistros because, he insists, everyone pays taxes to the State on the same footing.

As to traders, they say they are currently working at a loss because they rent houses while they no longer receive these products. They demand strict compliance with the clauses emerging from this meeting and call on the government to seek foreign currency for the purchase of raw materials in order to allow the only brewery in the small East African nation to end this shortage which has lasted too long.
