Christ Roi High School in Mushasha: students protested against the new deliberation criteria
Finalist students from Lycée Christ Roi de Mushasha in Gitega, the Burundi’s political capital, went on a strike on June 20, 2024. They are protesting against the new deliberation criteria established by the Education Ministry. The ministry changes and asks those responsible for technical schools to refer to the old ordinance during deliberations.

According to sources within this high school, out of 300 students, 190 succeeded after the teachers’ deliberation by applying a new order from the Ministry of Education on the deliberation criteria.
“After the results were displayed, angry students threw stones at the roof of the premises where the teachers were. The police intervened in time to try to restore order. There was no human damage, apart from the windows broken by these stones”, indicated an authority from this school who also specified that six students at the origin of this strike movement were arrested for investigative reasons but released the next day.
The ministry then asked that we continue to use the old ordinance and resume deliberation for technical schools. “All schools which have consulted the new order are invited to redo the deliberation using the old order. The new order will come into force next school year,” specifies a press release from the ministry.
