Kayanza : the delay in agricultural inputs penalizes farmers

Farmers in the province of Kayanza (north of the country) say they are shocked by the delay in the distribution of agricultural inputs even though the growing season C has already started. They indicate that they have paid the required fees but have still not received any fertilizer. They say that this delay will cause a poor harvest and ask authorities to quickly find a solution to this situation. The provincial directorate of environment, agriculture and livestock (DPAE) says it is aware of this situation and affirms that this information has already been submitted to hierarchical authorities.

According to local information, these farmers have already paid the fees required since March to obtain fertilizers for this farming season C.

“But until today, no response from the Ministry of Agriculture,” lament farmers, not understanding how they can go more than three months without getting feedback.

The same sources predict that this delay will lead to poor production in the farming season C, especially since this period is short compared to other farming seasons.

Farmers who spoke to SOS Médias Burundi are asking authorities to quickly make these inputs available to make their work easier.

The Burundi Farmers/Producers Forum in Kayanza denounces the delay in these inputs and finds that this situation is becoming a habit.

For the Forum, the government must think of farmers to better develop the country.

The DPAE, for its part, specifies that this question has already been submitted to hierarchical authorities and reassures those concerned, insisting that these inputs will soon be available.
