André Bucumi, 52, murdered his wife, Spéciose Cimpaye, 41, Saturday evening on Nyagumba hill, in Masango zone, Bukinanyana commune, Cibitoke province (north-west Burundi).

“The husband, after killing his wife, then committed suicide,” reported a neighbor.

The same source reports that this fifty-year-old man hanged himself with a rope.

A close relative of the victim reports that this couple was in perpetual disagreement, because the husband accused his wife of preventing him from selling some of his landed properties.

The facts are confirmed by Christian Nkurikiye, the communal administrator of Bukinanyana.

He asks the population to refer the matter to the courts, even in the event of disagreement within households.

The communal administrator adds that households should be marked by dialogue.

The families of the two deceased almost killed each other, had it not been for the intervention of the police and the local administration.

According to a police source, land conflicts have caused the death of 4 women who were then thrown into the Kibira nature reserve and the murder of 6 men in the same commune, since the beginning of this year.

10 suspects were arrested and imprisoned.
