According to testimonies collected on site, the victim, originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, was decapitated using a machete. All his belongings, including a large sum of money, were allegedly stolen.
A police source stated that an argument between these young people over the sharing of stolen items led to their arrest. “For the moment, three of them are incarcerated in the provincial Intelligence Service cell, while two other accomplices are still on the run,” said the same source.
Reactions and ongoing investigations
Residents of Munyika 1 express their indignation at this act and demand exemplary sanctions against the perpetrators, in accordance with the law. They also call for in-depth investigations to shed light on the motivations and exact circumstances of this murder.
They criticize the district administration, which ordered the victim’s rapid burial without conducting in-depth preliminary investigations.
For his part, the district administrator of Rugombo confirmed the crime and calls on residents to cooperate fully with the police and the justice system. “We are waiting for the judicial process to follow its course to bring justice to the victim,” he said.
