Butezi : a second body found in the camp in a week

A body was found a few meters from the Nyankanda camp in the district of Butezi in the province of Ruyigi (eastern Burundi) on Sunday. It has not been identified. A week ago, another corpse was found in the same camp. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

This body of a man was discovered near the wells where Congolese refugees wash their clothes. The corpse, plunged into the mud, was headless and was beginning to decompose, according to witnesses. This macabre discovery took place on Sunday, the inhabitants of the camp immediately alerted the local authorities.

To this day, the identity of the victim remains unknown. Security agents do not yet know if he is a refugee or a member of the local community. The scene, particularly shocking and disturbing, has plunged the community into fear and worry. The exact circumstances of the death have not yet been determined.

The authorities have launched an investigation, but information remains limited for the moment.

This tragic discovery comes only a week after the discovery of the body of a refugee in the same camp.

Refugees who spoke to SOS Médias Burundi believe that the two murders are linked.

“We need protection. We are already in a difficult situation, and these two successive murders in one week have frightened us. Security agents must increase their efforts so that security is guaranteed,” said a Congolese refugee living in Nyankanda.

Local administration and police officials have not yet reacted to this situation.
