Covid-19: Burundi claims to have won the battle against the pandemic
This Thursday, the Prime Minister and President of the National Covid-19 Response Committee held a press briefing with local media professionals. Gervais Ndirakobuca held the press briefing at the end of a meeting of members of the national response committee against Covid-19.
“We have won the battle against Covid-19. Since February 2022, we have observed low infection and spread of the pandemic with a positivity rate of less than 3% for more than six months”, he announced.
The number of people who have received the vaccine against the deadly virus is 23,984.
“The lowest figure in the East African region because vaccination is not compulsory (in Burundi)”, he nuanced.
He recalled that since the appearance of the first case in Burundi, 1,866,744 people have been tested free of charge and that 50,470 positive cases have been detected.
“[…], 50,183 have been cured, only 15 have died following the pandemic and now we have only 151 active cases and this leads us to conclude that Burundi has won the battle against Covid-19” he concluded.
