Makamba – Rutana : an increase in prices of Brarudi products which worries residents

Residents of Makamba and Rutana provinces (southeast Burundi) deplore the purchase of Brarudi products at prices they consider too high. A single bottle of Amstel 65cl is today sold for 10,000 Burundi francs in certain places. Administration and police authorities let this happen while they should enforce official prices. These authorities defend themselves and blame the population who do not denounce the speculators. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

In the Kayogoro district in Makamba province, the price of Amstel 65cl is 10,000 francs while the official price is 3,500. In other localities, the price varies between 5,000 and 10,000 Burundi francs. According to clients, the bottle of Primus 72cl is purchased at a price varying between 3500 and 4000 francs while the small Primus costs between 2500 and 3000 francs in the Bigina zone in the same district or between 5000 and 8000 in the town center of the district. Prices that have quadrupled.

Bistro owners do not deny having increased prices but explain that wholesalers have also increased prices per crate.

Same story in the Rutana province. according to clients, in the town center of the province, for Amstel 65cl, the price varies between 4000 and 5000.

In this province, the owners of the bistros determine the purchase of the drink. They require the customer to place an order in the kitchen, according to our sources.

Consumers deplore the inaction of the administration and police authorities who are aware of this situation but who do not punish the culprits.

The authorities, for their part, criticize consumers for not denouncing speculators on these products from the only brewery in the small East African nation.
