The incident took place on the night of September 9. Unknown persons destroyed this office which was painted in the colors of FRODEBU. But the provincial representative of this party suspects the Imbonerakure (members of the CNDD-FDD youth league) of being perpetrators of this attack.
“The Imbonerakure in this village do not tolerate the presence of other political parties,” accused Ferdinand Sindayigaya before recalling that this is the second office “sabotaged in less than a month in Bubanza”.
Ferdinand Sindayigaya fears that with these demolitions, house owners may refuse to give up premises to opposition political parties for fear of “damage”. He calls on local authorities to put an end to “this intolerance”.
“As the elections approach, the administration must intervene to find a solution to this issue once and for all,” he suggested.
The premises that were destroyed were due to be inaugurated on September 7. But authorities in Bubanza had prevented its opening, citing “a certain disruption to the ongoing census”, which the representatives of the party founded by the first Hutu to be elected head of state, Melchior Ndadaye, had accepted.
