Rugombo : a body found not far from the border with the DRC
A decapitated body of a man was discovered in a corn and bean field in the locality of Rusiga, in the district of Rugombo, province of Cibitoke (northwest Burundi), not far from the river Rusizi separating Burundi and the DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo). The body of a forty-year-old was discovered by farmers on Wednesday around dusk in Rusiga village, one kilometer from the border with the DRC.
According to an administration source, “the victim was killed during the day and his body hidden in the corn and bean plantations near the river Rusizi”.
The forty-year-old was killed with a machete. He was identified as one of the seasonal workers who come to the Imbo region, mostly from the northern provinces of Burundi.
His body was buried immediately afterward by Imbonerakure (members of the CNDD-FDD youth league), under the orders of the district administration. In less than six months, four cases of murder have been recorded in the Rugombo district.
The administrator of Rugombo Gilbert Manirakiza, confirms the murder of this man. He speaks of the launch of a police investigation.
