Mutaho: the post office manager killed

Emmanuel Ndayikengurutse was killed early in the afternoon. Perpetrators of the crime have been arrested. He was the local manager of the national post of Burundi. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

The official was returning to his office when two men, one of whom was armed with a pistol, followed him.

“They didn’t steal anything. The one who was armed shot him and they fled on a motorbike. Emmanuel died on the spot”, say witnesses who believe that a conflict between them is reportedly at the origin of this crime. They left the gun there.

Both men first headed for the province of Kayanza (north) before turning towards Ngozi (still north).

The crime took place in the district of Mutaho in the province of Gitega (center).

“They were caught heading towards Ngozi. They could not escape. All the soldiers and police in the region were mobilized. It was the officials at the provincial level who coordinated the operation”, a police source told SOS Médias Burundi. A walkie-talkie was discovered on them, according to witnesses.

The two men are expected to be tried in flagrante delicto.
