Gasorwe : a CNL member kidnapped

Viateur Nzigo, member of the CNL party (National Congress for Freedom) was kidnapped from his home in the district of Gasorwe in Muyinga province (northeastern Burundi) on the morning of this Wednesday, March 29. He was abducted by persons in a vehicle that residents say is from the National Intelligence Service. Since then, his worried family has had no news of him. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

According to sources from SOS Médias Burundi in the district of Gasorwe, a Toyota Hilux brand vehicle arrived at his home. He was called by men in the vehicle who his family members say were police officers.

“Police called him when he was still sleeping. Before going out, Nzigo opened the window to see who was calling him. After seeing that they were police officers, he alerted his CNL party companions. Men jumped on him and forced him into the vehicle which had no license plate”, a family member said.

According to the same source, the police officers who boarded him, without a warrant, were visibly guided by a person who was inside the vehicle. CNL members who have been alerted say the vehicle has been identified. “It was indeed a National Intelligence Service vehicle which took away our companion”, said a CNL member.

The vehicle took the direction of Muyinga-centre, but until nightfall on Wednesday, no one had any information on his place of detention, or whether he was still alive. His family and CNL party members say they have searched for him in all the dungeons of the area without success. They demand his immediate release.
