The Florina party wraps up its campaign in Rugombo by focusing on agriculture and fisheries

Rugombo, June 2, 2025 — Closing her election campaign in the district of Rugombo, in Cibitoke province (northwestern Burundi) on Sunday, Florina party chairperson Cécile Nshimirimana presented a platform focused on supporting farmers and herders as well as modernizing fishing on Lake Tanganyika. She also invited voters to support the CNDD-FDD in other provinces.
In a speech before a crowd of supporters, Ms. Nshimirimana promised the free distribution of selected seeds to boost agricultural production, as well as interest-free loans to enable farmers to expand their operations. “It is time for our farmers to produce more without going into debt,” she declared to applause.
The program also includes support for livestock farmers, with non-profit compensation for livestock losses or major hardships.
Another key focus : the development of Lake Tanganyika, “a treasure rich in fish but still underexploited.” The chairperson of the Florina party promised the introduction of modern technologies for sustainable and profitable fishing.
Before concluding, she announced that the campaign would continue in other districts of Bujumbura province, while surprisingly calling on voters in the remaining provinces to vote for the CNDD-FDD—a gesture that could be seen as a strategic overture or a political alliance.
Legislative and district elections are scheduled for June 5, 2025, intensifying the political stakes just days before the election.
