DRC : three days without news of journalist Tuver Wundi
SOS Médias Burundi,
Goma, August 30, 2025 – Tuver Tuverekwevyo Wundi, representative of Journaliste en Danger (JED), a partner of Reporters Without Borders (RSF) in the DRC, and provincial director of the state-run RTNC, has been detained for three days by Congolese intelligence services in Kinshasa. His arrest raises serious concerns for his safety and press freedom.
The JED organization confirmed on Friday the detention of its correspondent, Tuver Wundi, at the premises of the National Intelligence Agency (ANR) in Kinshasa, capital of the DRC. According to an official source contacted by the NGO, he is “being debriefed by the services.”
The journalist, who had been in the Congolese capital for several weeks, left Goma—the capital of North Kivu, which has been under M23 rebel occupation since January 2025—in early July, after being removed from his position as head of RTNC North Kivu by the rebel administration.
Last seen on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the JED office, he said he was going out to lunch with a friend, leaving his computer and bag behind. Since then, he has not been heard from and has not returned to his hotel in the district of Lingwala. His wife claims that both of his phones are ringing unanswered.
JED deplores this prolonged detention and calls on the Congolese authorities to clarify the reasons for this arrest. The organization recalls that Tuver Wundi had already been arrested and detained for several days by the M23 intelligence services after the fall of Goma in March 2025.
