Beni: at least 18 injured in a recent homemade bomb blast
A bomb exploded on the evening of Wednesday January 25, 2023 in the city of Beni, in the province of North Kivu, eastern Congo. The findings of the first investigations suggests, it was the rebels of the ADF (Allied Democratic Forces) who planted this bomb next to a flour mill. At least 18 people were injured. The Congolese national police spokesman Nasson Murara says 18 people were injured and rushed to local health structures for urgent medical treatment.
The perpetrators of the explosion left a bag bomb next to a flour mill.
Investigations are continuing to “remove all gray areas”, announced the Congolese police spokesman. The Congolese security services accuses the ADF, an armed group of Ugandan origin fighting the regime of Kampala and listed among “terrorists” groups by the United States.
This latest attack occurs a few days after another attack which claimed at least 14 faithful of the 8th Community of Pentecostal Churches of Central Africa (CEPAC). It took place in the Ruwenzori sector, in the city of Kasindi, bordering Uganda. It was in the middle of a baptismal service on Sunday January 15th. The attack was also attributed to the ADF.
Civil society in the city of Beni asks the security and intelligence services to “activate to dismantle terrorist networks” and calls on the population to be careful, especially in public places.
