A girl aged between 12 and 15 years old was found dead this Thursday, February 2 in the urban center of Rumonge, in the commune of Birimba. The body was lying in a gutter in the same neighborhood, witnesses say.

According to a children’s rights defender, the victim was carried away by the torrential rains that fell on the city center of Rumonge on the night of Wednesday to Thursday.

According to administrative sources, two other young girls from the Nkayamba district were injured.

“In addition to the human damage caused by these torrential rains, a dozen houses were damaged,” our sources said.

These torrential rains also disrupted the construction activities of the RN3, national road Bujumbura-Rumonge.

Localities undergoing rehabilitation have been flooded which slowed down the work. The administrative authorities are asking benefactors to help the victims.

Torrential rains mixed with hail had caused several damage last month on several hills in the Maramvya zone, in the municipality of Burambi (same province).
