The Rubirizi zone in Bujumbura province seems the most threatened, according to the Minister of Public Health.
Dr Lyduine Baradahana announced on Friday in the commercial city Bujumbura when UNICEF provided kits to manage cases of the pandemic.
“The equipment is complete and comes at the right time. Thanks to the UNICEF which has just supplied us with supplies to treat 800 cases of cholera,” declared the Minister of Health.
The amount allocated for this assistance amounts to nearly $68,000.
Minister Baradahana welcomes this aid from the UNICEF, which has supported the Burundian government since cases of cholera were reported in 2023.
This support essentially consists of clothing and equipment for nursing staff, medicines for the sick and protection kits for those around them.
Dr Baradahana reassured the population of the localities most affected by the epidemic that the spraying campaign will continue to restrict cases of contamination and treat cases already reported.
Despite these efforts, the shortage of clean water remains the main challenge in different neighborhoods of the commercial capital Bujumbura, which complicates the task in the fight against this cholera epidemic.
The Minister of Health continues to remind the population to always respect hygiene measures and that households take care to dig adequate latrines to curb contamination cases.
