Murwi : a septuagenarian beheaded

Samuel Kabuye (71 years old) was killed on the morning of this Wednesday. The murder took place in Remera village in district in Cibitoke province (northwest Burundi). Six suspects were arrested as part of a police investigation. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

The victim was known in the locality as a cow trader.

At the time of the tragedy, Samuel Kabuye was going to the Ndora market in Bukinanyana district (same province) to buy cows.

“Unknown persons intercepted him and decapitated him before seizing his money. The amount is estimated at four million Burundi francs”, our sources specify.

After discovering the remains, local residents alerted authorities. Samuel Ndabarushimana, the village chief of Remera, told SOS Médias Burundi that six people were arrested as part of an ongoing police investigation.

The six suspects are four Imbonerakure (members of the CNDD-FDD youth league) and two cow traders – colleagues of the victim, our sources detail.

In addition to the cow trade, Samuel Kabuye also lived from agriculture and livestock. Residents are demanding independent investigations to determine perpetrators and motives for the murder of this septuagenarian.

More than 70 people have already been murdered in the province of Cibitoke since the beginning of this year, according to a count by SOS Médias Burundi. The districts of Buganda and Rugombo are the deadliest.
