Burundi: Farmers urged to adapt their farming activities to the climate
The Geographical Institute of Burundi (IGEBU) announced last Wednesday the start of the growing season A, “Agatasi”. The Institute says the season tends to be rainier than the previous year in some areas of the country. IGEBU recommends that provincial agricultural directors to raise awareness among farmers to comply with the hazards.

It was the director of the Department of Hydrometeorology and Agrometeorology who announced this in a press briefing in the economic capital Bujumbura.
“The weather forecast shows that the country will have normal rainfall with a tendency to be excessive in a large part of the country,” said Déogratias Babonwanayo.
He specified that rainfall close to the climatological norm but with a deficit tendency is expected in the natural region of Bugesera.
“Normal rainfall is expected in the regions of Buyenzi, Bweru, Bugesera and in part of Buyogoma”, he detailed before calling on the provincial directors in charge of agriculture and livestock to raise awareness among the population: the start of the A growing season is expected during the first 20 days of September in certain parts and natural regions of Imbo, Mugamba, Mirwa and Bugesera, while the first rains will fall between the third ten days of September and the first ten days of October 2024 for the rest of the country.
Mr. Babonwanayo added there is lack of adequate equipment, insufficiency of qualified personnel and financial means.
