Ituri : a deadly CODECO attack leaves a dozen dead and several injured in Mahagi

Militiamen of the CODECO (Cooperative for the Development of Congo) carried out a new deadly attack, killing at least 12 people this Friday and Saturday in Panduru, in the territory of Mahagi, in the province of Ituri in the east of the DRC. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

According to Innocent Wabekudu, responsible for the civil society in Mahagi territory, who gave the information, the CODECO militiamen besieged the village of Panduru all night on Friday and midday on Saturday.

Our sources in the area say that apart from those killed, several others were injured in this attack.

“The injured are receiving treatment at local health facilities.”

The local civil society considers the toll to be provisional.

“Search operations are continuing in the area of ​​the tragedy in order to find other bodies and possible survivors”.

Several people decided to abandon the village following this attack.

Mr. Wabekudu pleads for the reinforcement of FARDC elements (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo) in this part of Mahagi.

For the moment, military authorities of the region have not yet reacted.
