It is in a press release that the Rwandan army announced the death of the soldier from the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo).

The document says the soldier was shooting at the Rwandan army guard towers when he was shot.

The incident took place at the border post known as “Petite Barrière”. It is between the district of Rubavu (western Rwanda) and the city of Goma (capital of North Kivu) in the east of the DRC.

Congolese authorities have not yet reacted to this incident.

In mid-June this year, another Congolese soldier was killed by Rwandan police at the same border post as he fired on immigration officers and civilians, according to the Rwandan army.

The incident had caused several outrages in the cities of eastern Congo. Civil society associations and pressure groups had asked Congolese authorities to “close borders with Rwanda”.

In both cases, the Rwandan army claims to have informed the ICGLR (International Conference on the Great Lakes Region) about the incidents.
