The thumb of Mr. Nkeramihigo’s right hand was cut off.

It was around 2 a.m. when the incident took place, according to witnesses.

“Police broke into a bar in Section I in Ngagara zone. They ordered the manager to lower the volume of the music. A policeman then loaded his gun to shoot at a group of people who were taking their drinks. By the way, he did not tolerate a drunk man who asked ‘where did this order come from'”, say witnesses.

It was then that Nkeramihigo tried to prevent the policeman from shooting into the crowd.

“He was hit by three bullets, one of which took away the thumb of his right hand”, say our sources.

“His days are not numbered”, add witnesses.

The man is receiving treatment at a health facility in the commercial city of Bujumbura. His relatives demand the opening of a judicial inquiry.

This Monday, police officers who were at the scene of the incident and the owner of the bar were interrogated.
