Giharo: three Imbonerakure arrested, after two weeks on the run, following a young man’s murder

Mateso, head of the Imbonerakure on Butezi hill, his deputy Gabriel Nyandwi known as Gasongo and Éric Baranzigiriza, member of the imbonerakure league, were arrested by the police this Monday January 1, 2024. The three are prosecuted for the murder of a young man, Josué Iraganje, on Butezi hill in Giharo commune in Rutana province, southeastern Burundi. The suspect on the run is named Bernard Nibizi, responsible for Imbonerakure in the new Musongati commune.

“Bernard Niyibizi fled to the United Republic of Tanzania,” said a source within the CNDD-FDD.

Another source indicates instead that Bernard Nibizi hid at the home of Sylvain Nzikoruriho, provincial secretary of the CNDD-FDD in the new Burunga province.

In the Giharo commune, young Josué is the seventh person killed by members of the CNDD-FDD youth league. Residents demand exemplary sanctions.
