Burundi : the new CNL leaders want to crush Rwasa

The new governing bodies of the CNL announce ongoing investigations into property stolen by former members of the Political Bureau. Nestor Girukwishaka, current chairperson of the CNL party, indicated in a press briefing on Saturday afternoon that “we have noted that essential tools and materials for the party have disappeared.” INFO SOS Médias Burundi

This concerns the stamp, IT equipment, office supplies, rolling stock, financial assets, etc., listed Mr. Girukwishaka in a press briefing he organized in the commercial city Bujumbura.

He specified that this emerges from a report from the commission set up by the new office to inventory all the assets of the CNL party. In his statement, the contested chairperson of the main opposition political party in Burundi also warned those who would attempt to fraudulently use the party’s instruments, symbols and signs that they were exposed to serious sanctions.

Agathon Rwasa, the contested CNL traditional leader who was deposed at the beginning of last March during an extraordinary congress that he describes as illegal, believes instead that the stolen property will be handed over by the current leaders. He explains that they entered the national office by violation because they broke down the doors. He is also concerned about the arbitrary arrests and detentions of his members.

At the beginning of the week, the spokesperson for the ministry in charge of internal affairs and security, Pierre Nkurikiye, announced that followers of Agathon Rwasa are circulating documents in the neighborhoods of the commercial capital Bujumbura for signature. He also spoke about messages shared on social media threatening certain authorities in the country. Pierre Nkurikiye clearly underlined that “these people must be arrested and punished in accordance with the law”, assimilating them to “criminals”.
