The macabre discovery (two men, a woman and two girls) happened this Wednesday in the village of Mabiti. It is near the city of Komanda, Basili chiefdom in the territory of Irumu (province of Ituri, Eastern DRC). Victims have been identified and were believed to have been killed by assailants, according to the chairperson of the Yira community. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

It is farmers who discovered the bodies, according to local sources.

“Farmers responded to the chieftaincy chief’s call to return to their crop fields. When they arrived in Mabiti, they came across men armed with bows and arrows. They began to chase away the farmers”, said witnesses.

They specify that out of 26 farmers who left for the fields, only 13 returned, the five victims having been recognized as part of the group.

“We recognized two men, a woman and two little girls. They were with us. But here we are only 13, and we don’t know what happened to otger eight members of the group”, testify survivors currently accommodated in a military camp for their security.

The chairperson of the Yira community in Irumu condemned the attack. He urged the government to protect the population in general and members of his community in particular.

The five victims are in addition to thirteen other civilians killed in the same entity in Masome two weeks ago.

So far, no armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack in this part of Congo where several rebel groups abound, including the ADF (Allied Democratic Forces) considered by the United Nations and the United States as a terrorist group.
